The tester is meant to load the battery with a calibrated load of current and measures how the battery responds in real-time. This is because while a lithium battery may be dead, it still retains some of its nominal voltage and this voltage can be distracted by a voltmeter or Multimeter.<\/p><p>Most high-quality lithium-ion batteries come with dedicated BMS that cutoff energy supply at a certain low voltage, this prevents the battery from going below a certain voltage level thereby preventing damage to the battery cells. For a good quality 12V lithium-ion battery, the accompanying BMS would cut off the energy supply when the voltage gets as low as 11.5V.
