lithium ion batteries are the most popular batteries which are being used in many forms of electrical appliances. About 80 to 90% of energy storage devices are lithium-ion based. 1.5 v battery come in various forms, including button-type 1.5 v battery, soft pack 1.5 v battery, and cylindrical 1.5 v battery, depending on the package, the price is different, and the equipment used is also different.

There are two types of batteries/cells available in the market, rechargeable and non-rechargeable also called disposable. But the disposable batteries are now very less popular as many of the devices and appliances that we have are electrically powered and need some supply of electricity that in not disposable, that can be reused and or recycled somehow to reduce the cost of running of that equipment for a long time.

So instead of changing the power source we just have to recharge it with any power supply that we have at the spot with a specific charger for that specific battery that is installed inside of the equipment or appliance.

With the advent of the thought of shifting our energy sources from the conventional energy supplies like fossil fuels (i.e. coal, oil, and natural gas etc.) to renewable energy sources like solar, wind, hydro, biomass etc., the main hurdle is to store the energy that we gather from these variable sources to some energy storage device so that excess it can be used at the time when the supply from that source minimizes.

As wind is not always blowing and sun is not always up. So we need batteries everywhere for running our equipment. And here lithium-ion batteries comes in handy in such situation as they are durable, and of high strength, voltage, and life span.

Most of the aa vs aaa battery usually are NiMH battery or cells all over the world, but they usually provide 1.2V of standard voltage which is not enough for many of the appliances. So there comes the use of 1.5 v battery that are usually lithium-ion batteries and are comparable to the NiMH batteries with better strength for running the devices that need a 1.5 v battery.

Also NiMH batteries’ capacities decreases with time no matter they remain fully charged or not, but the capacity of the Li-ion do not variate like the NiMH, but still there are cycles of the batteries for which it will run and giver full power and capacity.

Lithium-ion 1.5 v battery generally have 80% capacity after reaching the maximum number of cycles. After such cycles, of charging and then discharging, the capacity will start to show some deficiency, e.g. batteries have total 1.5 v battery life or cycles of about 500-1000 after which its capacity will not remain the same to store energy and reduces somehow, i.e. good quality lithium 1.5 v battery after using for 500 cycles reduces its capacity to 80% which decreases further at an increasing rate after more use.

Before Li-ion, disposable alkaline batteries were used for the purpose of running devices that need 1.5 v battery.

But after lithium-ion batteries comes into the market they rapidly took the place of the disposable alkaline batteries, and need for changing the power unit again and again was also not there due to recharging capability of Lithium ion batteries. Here you can know more about lithium ion aa battery

Uses of 1.5 v lithium ion battery

These batteries have vast use in our everyday life. Almost all of the appliance that we use needs these small AA 1.5 v battery of lithium-ion and also other disposable 1.2V batteries. So we cannot simply neglect the importance of batteries in our daily life.

We need them in our gadgets like watches which use mostly CR2023, to light up the bulbs, in our machines, in our vehicles and almost everywhere, now our hybrid plants will rely on these batteries in the future as we will shift fully to green energy on day because there is now deficiency of conventional energy resources and also due to climatic changes that are happening due to the global warming.

Benefits of rechargeable lithium batteries

1.5 v battery of lithium-ion which can be recharged are economical as well as environment friendly. As they can be charged again and again using a charger for about 500-1000 cycles before any defect occurs, so one 1.5 v battery of lithium-ion is equal to 1000 disposable batteries.

This also decrease the amount of waste batteries with a little more cost, and also a lot of toxic substances from the environment with which these disposable batteries are made off, like alkalis, nickel, zinc, mercury, lead, and cadmium etc.

as when we dispose of the batteries then these toxic elements goes into the environment and then produces damaging effects after going into our bodies or in the animals.

So overall the rechargeable 1.5 v battery of lithium-ion have long battery life, more economical, and are less harmful for the environment as compared to disposables ones, and on the other hand you also recycle them after using so that no harm is done by it at all.

Advancements in the lithium ion 1.5 v battery

Now there are more advancement being done in the Li-ion batteries by using alternate technologies in the battery cell with lithium or even without it. Those metals are being applied which shows better 1.5 v battery chemistry, giving better results, after doing research and development.

Such as Li-Sulfur, Li-Air, Na-ion, and some solid state battery are a few examples which are included. Lithium-ion solar cells have been used by many people. They have higher energy density, less weight and increased life span. Such batteries can be charged with the solar PVs. But still the commercialization is not being done at this stage as the technologies are premature till today and a lot of difficulties and problems are still coming in the way.

But still a lot of research is continuously being done and interests have been developing due to the fact that there are many benefits of lithium-ion batteries, and also due to the cause that now we have to rely on the alternating sources of renewable energies like wind, solar or tidal etc. and these resources desperately need some electricity storing devices.
