How to define a 2450 battery and its use

We often use cylindrical lithium ion battery in our daily life. Today, I want to talk about 2450 batteries that will also be used around us. 2450 battery, is our common coin battery, coin batteries, otherwise called button cells or batteries are so called because of their size and shape.

Coin cells are thinner and have a resemblance to coins while the button cells are thicker and look like buttons.

These batteries, when produced are structured to have varying diameters (from 4.8mm-30mm) and heights (1mm-7.7mm). These cells have existed for long time, and have found purpose in portable devices, electronic gadgets and medical appliances. 2450 battery has a primary battery and a secondary battery.

The names are codes used to identify each product, a popular example of which is the CR 2450 battery

Coin cells can be broadly classified into three: alkaline battery, lithium battery and silver oxide battery. They have similar physical characteristics (based on the shape and size) and could only be distinguished from one another based on their chemical properties; features that could vary and determine their relative uses in appliances. For instance, gadgets (such as speakers and high display cameras) with high drain features require a commensurate amount of battery power for effectiveness.

This article would describe the lithium coin batteries and their properties, types, differences and corresponding uses.

Non-rechargeable lithium ion coin cell batteries are made up of lithium manganese dioxide, a component found in about 80% of all commercially available lithium batteries. Every lithium coin battery comes with a standardized name, the widely accepted and most acceptable standard being the International Electrochemical Commission (IEC). The names are codes used to identify each product, a popular example of which is the CR 2450 battery. Other products are CR2430, CR2032, DL2450, 250EL, CR2450N, 5029LC, amongst others.

There is a difference between CR 2450 battery and CR2030 battery.

What is a CR 2450 battery

A CR 2450 battery is the most common form of lithium coin batteries, produced on a large scale and constructed with lithium as its negative electrode and manganese dioxide as its positive electrode. The code name for CR 2450 battery as announced by the International Electrochemical Commission was coined from the properties of the cell. The letter C, symbolizes the battery’s chemistry, Lithium manganese. The Letter R gives details of the round shape of the battery while the four reference numbers give the approximate battery size; 24mm in diameter and 5mm height in this case.

What kind of battery is CR 2450

The CR 2450 battery is a non-rechargeable lithium coin battery, whose lifespan is a function of its shelf life and in fewer cases, environmental factors like temperature that control the rate of discharge. CR 2450 batteries have the following features (some of which are general features of lithium ion coin batteries).

High voltage and capacity

The CR 2450 battery, like lithium ion batteries, has a nominal voltage of 3V, compared to 1.5V generated by alkaline and silver oxide battery. This implies that for every device needing two alkaline or silver coin batteries, one CR 2450 battery would suffice.

Furthermore, the capacity of a CR 2450 battery is high, the capacity of CR 2450 under IEC standard is above 520mAh and with a low self-discharge rate, long lasting.

Superior leakage resistance

Tests repeatedly conducted on CR 2450 batteries have certified the reliability and safety of these batteries; proven by their high resistance to corrosion.

What kind of battery is CR2450

Heat resistance

CR 2450 batteries have been confirmed to withstand a wide range of temperatures (-40℃~120℃). This wide temperature range suggests that the batteries would function optimally within the range and the discharge rate would not be markedly influenced, allowing for long usage time.

Very low self-discharge

The rate of self-discharge of CR 2450 batteries is low, about 3% self-discharge per month. This one of the reasons for the long shelf-life of the batteries.

Light weight

The light weight of CR 2450 batteries make them portable and applicable for use in small devices like wristwatches, Instruments, meters, industrial control panels, etc.

High power-weight ratio

The power-weight ratio is a measure of performance of a gadget. Due to the small weight and power of CR 2450 batteries, the power-weight ratio is very high. This suggests a high level of performance and accounts for the application of these batteries in a variety of gadgets.

Are DL2450 and CR 2450 the same

Are DL2450 and CR2450 the same

DL2450 battery is a type of lithium coin battery whose description features a diameter of 24mm and height of 5.0mm. The DL2450 battery product is CR 2450, but DL is a product name named by the manufacturer himself, and CR is a general IEC standard definition, both of which are 24mm in diameter and 5mm in thickness.

It is safe to therefore assume that DL2450 battery and CR 2450 battery are essentially the same batteries, having similar physical characteristics and chemical components but with different manufacturers.

Uses of lithium CR 2450 batteries

The lithium CR 2450 battery have been found to be useful in achieving various intentions. First off, their portability, a function of their light weight enables their use in wristwatches (digital and analogue), calculators, car keys and laser pens. In addition, these batteries offer utility in medicine as they serve as the powerhouses of devices like tensiometers and fitness appliances. In addition, medical lithium batteries are widely used in medical applications

They are also used in pedometers, garage open doors, pet collars, toys, vernier calipers and Personal Digital Assistant.

Can CR2032 be used instead of CR 2450

Can CR2032 be used instead of CR2450

In selecting the battery type to be used for a device, the most important factors to consider include the voltage, current capacity and dimensions of the battery. CR 2450 and CR2032 batteries have the same voltage, 3volts, however, the dimensions confer a grave disparity. While the CR2032 has a diameter of 20mm and height of 3.2mm, the CR 2450 battery has a diameter of 24 mm and height of 5.0 mm. This implies that a CR2032 battery would not fit into the battery holder of a device built to hold a CR 2450 battery because the battery holders in each device in almost all cases are built to accommodate a specific-sized battery.

Therefore, a CR2032 cannot be used in the place of a CR 2450 battery due to the disparity in sizes, except the device’s battery holder is constructed to permit both sizes.

How long does a CR 2450 battery last

The chemical stability of CR 2450 battery (due to the combination of lithium and manganese oxide) ensures that after 5-10 years, the batteries still possess 90% of their initial capacity. This long shelf life is also partly due to the low discharge rate across widely varying temperatures (-40℃~120℃).

In conclusion, lithium coin batteries have proven to be useful in many facets of human existence, the most common being the CR 2450 battery providing maximum utility, thanks to its high voltage (3V) and current capacity of 1800mAh.
